Christina
Christina is currently serving as Director of Youth Ministries at Grace United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. She attends Perkins School of Theology at SMU, with a women's studies concentration.
Brittany
Brittany is a student at Perkins School of Theology at SMU, where she is studying urban ministry. In her free time, she loves rock climbing, racquetball, and playing guitar.
Emmanuel
While in Congo, Christina and Brittany met a 12-year-old boy named Emmanuel, who was born without legs. Sponsorship by Texas churches enabled him to receive surgery, and $15,000 is needed to help him receive prosthetics so he can walk. Project Emmanuel is named for him and for the women and children of Africa who remind us that truly "God is with us."
Brittany and Christina's passion for Africa began with a trip to Cameroon when a team of United Methodist college students went to empower and educate young leaders. There they witnessed poverty beyond their own imaginations and were captivated by the resilience and strong faith of the people. Inspired by this experience, they returned to Africa as volunteers in the Democratic Republic of Congo to serve at an orphanage and school for 10 months. While there, Christina and Brittany saw the devestating effects of AIDS, Malaria, and the Congo War - the world's deadliest conflict since World War II. While they had originally only planned to teach school and lead activities for the orphans, they felt compelled to do more. With the donations of sponsors in Texas, they were able to provide mosquito nets, shoes, clothes, mattresses, blankets, pillows, medicine, food, toys, school supplies, books, Bibles, a stove and freezer for orphans and homeless children. They also empowered women through school sponsorships for their children, and through donations to the United Methodist Women's group.
